NASCAR – Busches help couple toward dream of being parents – News – Gaston Gazette

When Sharika and Gabriel Ramseur were married seven years ago, they knew before they ever said “I do” that they wanted to be parents.

“My husband is the most genuine, giving, and compassionate person I have ever met,” said Sharika of her spouse. “I know that he will make an excellent father.”

Gabriel was equally effusive in praise of his wife’s potential as a mother, describing her as “so caring and so grounded in her Christian faith.”

Yet, despite that great desire to bring children into the world and to rear them in a loving, disciplined environment, no children came and the dream remained deferred.

Just before Christmas, however, that dream took a giant step toward reality when NASCAR driver Kyle Busch and his wife, Samantha, surprised the Gaston County couple with an $18,000 grant from their Bundle of Joy Fund to assist the Ramseurs in their efforts to bring a baby into this world.

That money, matched by $4,000 raised by Sharika’s co-workers in the Labor and Delivery Department at CaroMont Regional Medical Center, will help the couple pay for in vitro fertilization.

Most insurance companies won’t pay for the process that creates embryos by mixing eggs and sperm in a lab dish, which the Busch family discovered as they went through IVF to help conceive their son, Brexton, who was born in May 2015.

The Ramseurs were lured to the hospital to receive the good news by a couple of tall tales.

Gabriel was told that his wife, who works as a labor and delivery technician at CaroMont, was receiving an unspecified award.

Sharika was told that it was a co-worker who was being honored and that she needed to be there.

It was not until the couple walked into the hospital and saw a host of their family and friends, as well as the Busches, that they realized something was up.

“It was overwhelming,” said Gabriel of the moment the Busches told them of the award. “This is something we had prayed about for so long and then to suddenly receive that gift. I can’t describe it.”

“The Busches spoke with us, encouraged us, supported us and told us to stay in touch throughout the process,” said Sharika. “They could not have been more understanding toward us.”

That “process” will begin next month as the Ramseurs work with Reproductive Endocrinology Associates of Charlotte to accomplish the in vitro fertilization.

If everything proceeds as planned, Sharika will be pregnant in late February and the couple’s child will be born in December, probably close to Christmas.

“The Busches were our angels at that moment,” said Ramseur of the famous NASCAR driver and his wife. “It’s like saying a prayer and the answer is given before you say ‘Amen.'”

Gabriel, who is a destination planner for Ward Trucking Corp. in Charlotte and also assistant pastor of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Shelby, said the couple had purchased a new home earlier last year, so 2018 was a great year of them.

And, if all goes as planned, 2019 will be even better.
