Soccer – AC Milan open talks with Genoa over Krzysztof Piatek

Chelsea have this evening been handed a boost in their pursuit of AC Milan striker Gonzalo Higuain, amid claims from the reliable Gianluca Di Marzio that the Rossoneri have made first contacts with Genoa over the signing of Krzysztof Piatek.

Genoa standout

Piatek, a 23-year-old Polish hitman, only made the move to the Stadio Luigi Ferraris last summer. The twice-capped international joined Genoa from Krakow-based outfit Cracovia for a fee of just 4 million Euro.

And it is this measly sum that has since seen Piatek develop into one of, if not the finest summer signing across all of Europe’s top leagues.

To this point in the campaign, the prolific Pole has notched 19 goals in 21 appearances across all competitions.

This includes a 4-goal haul on his competitive Genoa debut versus Lecce back in August.

Piatek in-demand

As such, Piatek’s stellar form has since inevitably seen the striker linked with a whole host of top European clubs.

Despite the Lechia Dzierżoniów youth product having only been plying his trade at the top-level for half a season, all of Juventus, Atletico Madrid, Napoli, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and AC Milan have already been named as expressing an interest in Piatek’s signature.

In fact, Spanish sources over the last 24 hours have gone as far as to suggest that the Genoa standout has emerged as Real Madrid’s top January transfer target.

Milan swoop

But, as per the aforementioned update from Gianluca Di Marzio, another club have today stolen a march on Los Blancos.

The outfit in question come in the form of Serie A giants AC Milan.

The Diavolo are said to have opened preliminary discussions with Genoa over securing Piatek’s signing this month.

The Rossoblu, for their part, though, are said to be demanding at least 40 million Euro for their star man.

Chelsea’s Higuain chase

This news is of course also of significance to Premier League giants Chelsea.

The Blues are known to be attempting to coax Gonzalo Higuain to Stamford Bridge, as a potential replacement for Alvaro Morata, who in turn is said to be keen on a move to Atletico Madrid.

Higuain is currently on loan at AC Milan from Serie A rivals Juventus, meaning Chelsea will have to find an agreement with both clubs if they intend to secure the Argentine’s arrival this month.

Milan, though, will reportedly not agree to such a deal until they have secured a replacement.
