Soccer – Chelsea ‘fighting losing battle’ to keep hold of Callum Hudson-Odoi

As per a report from Goal.com’s Chelsea correspondent Nizaar Kinsella, Blues’ youngster Callum Hudson-Odoi has his heart set on a move to Bayern Munich.

Chelsea prodigy

The story surrounding the future of gifted starlet Hudson-Odoi has been one of the talking points of the January transfer window so far.

Having reportedly become frustrated with his lack of first-team opportunities at Chelsea to this point in his career, the teenage winger has been heavily-linked with a potential January move away from Stamford Bridge.

Hudson-Odoi’s current deal with the Blues is due to expire in the summer of 2020, with Chelsea desperate to secure the long-term future of the club’s most high-profile youth product.

Bayern interest

Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich, though, have other ideas.

The Bavarians recently lodged a 4th official bid for the English youth international, with Bayern absolutely intent on getting a deal for Hudson-Odoi over the line this month.

‘Fighting a losing battle’

And, as per the aforementioned update from Nizaar Kinsella this afternoon, Bayern may yet see their plan to land Hudson-Odoi before the close of the winter transfer window come to fruition.

Chelsea are said to be stalling on accepting the German champions’ latest bid for their prodigious starlet, in the hopes that an increase in playing time will result in Hudson-Odoi reconsidering his future with the club.

However, the player himself  ‘has his heart set’ on a move to the Allianz Arena.

Bayern have reportedly offered Hudson-Odoi the no.10 jersey set to be vacated by club legend Arjen Robben at the end of the season. In addition, the explosive wide-man has been encouraged by the progress of fellow English youngster Jadon Sancho with Borussia Dortmund to this point in the campaign.

As such, Goal report that it could be a case of ‘too little, too late’ for Chelsea, with the Blues, aware that Hudson-Odoi’s expiring contract means that his value will have diminished by the summer (in the case that he doesn’t sign a new deal), now being forced to consider Hudson-Odoi’s sale this month.
