Soccer – Chelsea’s Ross Barkley anticipates hostile reception v Everton

Coming up against his former side

Chelsea star Ross Bakley is anticipating a hostile reception when he comes up against his former side and boyhood club Everton on Sunday.

The scouser left Everton in January after a contract standoff turned sour.

Everton were attempting to tie him down to a new deal but he wouldn’t agree to one.

That lead Ronald Koeman claiming he would be sold the summer before his deal ran out.

A deadline day move to Chelsea came round for what was rumoured to be big money.

However, the player pulled out of the move at the 11th hour and left the Toffees with a player whose value was dropping.

January comes around and Chelsea gets the player for half of that price.

Safe to say, Everton fans were pretty aggrieved.

‘I don’t think the reception will be the best’

Now, he is preparing to face off against his former side for the first time since his move.

He’s claimed that he doesn’t think the reception he’s going to get will ‘be the best’ but insists he isn’t nervous.

‘I don’t think the reception will be the best,’ Barkley explained, as quoted by the Daily Mail.

‘I’m not nervous, I’m excited to play against my former club and team mates – I understand how some of them play, so that could be an advantage for me.

‘On the day I might get a few nerves as it will feel a bit strange. I’m looking forward to catching up with some of the staff there who I used to get on really well with.

‘I was approaching 25 and I felt looking back I could have improved a lot more.

‘At Chelsea I knew I’d improve a lot quicker around better players, world-class players.’
