Soccer – Huddersfield Town part ways with David Wagner

Huddersfield Town have this evening confirmed that manager David Wagner has departed the club by way of mutual consent.

Wagner’s impressive stint

German tactician Wagner first took over the reigns at Huddersfield in November of 2015.

After guiding the Terriers to a 19th-place Championship finish and subsequent safety from relegation during his debut campaign at the Kirklees Stadium, Wagner went on to overhaul Huddersfield’s squad the preceding summer, securing the signatures of no fewer than 13 players.

And the combination of Wagner’s eye for talent and tactical nous saw the former Mainz and Schalke star go on to guide the Terriers through a remarkable transformation during the 2016/17 season.

After securing a 5th-place finish in the Championship table, Huddersfield sealed promotion to the Premier League courtesy of a playoff final penalty-shootout victory over Reading.

Huddersfield’s recent struggles

However, after once again impressing in maintaining his side’s top-flight status last season, the current campaign has since proven a far-more testing affair for Wagner.

Having amassed just 2 wins and a hefty 15 losses from their 22 Premier League outings thus far, Huddersfield currently sit rock-bottom of the English top-flight table.

Wagner departs

As such, as per an announcement across the Yorkshire outfit’s official website and social media platforms a short time ago, Huddersfield and Wagner have this evening come to the decision to part ways by mutual consent:

Terriers’ owner Dean Hoyle, meanwhile, has since moved to reiterate the fact that Wagner was not sacked:
