Soccer – Southampton’s Charlie Austin set for a ban for his furious rant after Watford



Southampton 1 – Watford 1

Southampton are now winless in eight Premier League matches.

On Saturday in the Premier League, the Saints were held to a 1-1 draw at home against Watford.

Southampton took the lead in the 20th minute after a first goal of the season for striker Manolo Gabbiadini.

However Watford claimed a share of the spoils after Jose Holebas equalised with eight minutes to go.

The result left Southampton just outside the bottom three on goal difference.

Mark Hughes’s side only have 8 points from 12 matches. As for Watford, they moved up to seventh with the point.

The big talking point after the game was an offside call which ruled out a Charlie Austin goal just after the hour.

Nathan Redmond did well to advance into the Watford area on the right hand side and squad a cross into the danger zone.

The ball fell to Charlie Austin, who shot first time.

Austin’s shot flew into the Watford net, but it was incredibly chalked off for offside.

Charlie Austin’s furious rant

After the game, Austin let rip at the officials for chalking his goal off.

In a post match interview to Sky Sports, the Southampton forward vented:

It’s ridiculous. That [goal] should win the game. We score a perfectly good goal, 2-0 – the game’s done and dusted…

It’s a joke, talking about VAR this, VAR that. Help the officials out! Clearly they need help! It’s cost us two points today. It’s a joke.

Southampton’s Austin faces a ban

The fear is that Charlie Austin will now be banned for his post match interview.

The Premier League don’t usually take kindly to players berating their officials in the manner which Austin did.
